These individuals work at a bone mill in Dhaka, Bangladesh, right outside the largest landfill in the country, Matuail Landfill. Bones are collected from the landfill and brought to a bone mill like this one to be broken down into a powder that will be sent to India to be converted into gelatin capsules for pills and vitamins. It is possible that at one time you have ingested a vitamin or pill with a gelatin capsule that had ingredients originating from a “third-world” landfill. During Eid al-Adha, cows are sacrificed by the rich and given to the poor. Millions of cows are killed on this day and are a very busy time of year for bone mills.
